Life Skills

Living a healthy and happy lifestyle is an integral part of quality of life.  With this in mind, we take a look at some essential life skills for adults living with a developmental disability and teach them throughout our program.

Life skills such as healthy eating, exercise, and personal hygiene, can make you feel better and look better, but also enhance long-term health and quality of life.

The key to maintaining a healthy and happy lifestyle is all about daily habits. While many of these may already be in place, sometimes small additions can make a big difference. It’s the little things that count and can add up to create a happier, healthier and more confident individual.

Daily habits such as showering, brushing teeth, using deodorant, getting dressed and combing hair, may seem simple, but can significantly improve personal hygiene and confidence.  Washing, ironing, cleaning or gardening may be the type of life skills that can be done around the house.  At The Centre for Dreams, we strive to have our members become as independent as they possibly can.

The real benefit they will get from working on these skills is the confidence that they can learn new things. This increased level of confidence will be invaluable when they seek to approach other areas of development.
