Life Skills

Living a healthy and happy lifestyle is an integral part of quality of life.  With this in mind, we take a look at some essential life skills for adults living with a developmental disability and teach them throughout our program. Life skills such as healthy eating, exercise, and personal hygiene, can make you feel better and look better, but also enhance long-term health and quality of life. The key to maintaining a healthy and happy lifestyle is all about daily habits. While many of these may already be in place, sometimes small additions can make a big difference. It’s the little things that count and can add up to create a happier, healthier and more confident individual.

Daily habits such as showering, brushing teeth, using deodorant, getting dressed and combing hair, may seem simple, but can significantly improve personal hygiene and confidence.  Washing, ironing, cleaning or gardening may be the type of life skills that can be done around the house.  At The Centre for Dreams, we strive to have our members become as independent as they possibly can. The real benefit they will get from working on these skills is the confidence that they can learn new things. This increased level of confidence will be invaluable when they seek to approach other areas of development.

DREAMWORX

The Centre for Dreams Job Skills Training Program and DreamWorx Program work together seamlessly to equip members with essential job skills such as cleaning, filing, and organization.

The goal is to help members identify their ideal workplace based on their abilities and preferences. Once they've honed these foundational skills, they transition to the DreamWorx Program, which offers specialized training in retail, grocery, and restaurant industries.

At DreamWorx, members receive personalized coaching tailored to their chosen industry. The program is designed to replicate real work environments, providing one-on-one support and guidance to help members excel in their work placements.

Each month, members focus on a specific topic relevant to their industry, culminating in a performance task at the end of the month to showcase their skills and knowledge. This structured approach ensures continuous improvement and fosters independence in the workplace.

INDEPENDENT LIVING
