Life Skills Programming

Our Life skills program is one of the most integral parts of our programming at The Centre for Dreams. The life skills program allows our members to take steps towards independence and live their everyday life with dignity. Our intent is to eliminate barriers in their everyday life.

As a result of COVID-19, our members have spent more time in their own homes, there has been a greater need to enhance their life skills so that they are able to live as independently as possible. We are functioning at only 30% capacity with the majority of our clients still at home. Through our virtual programming, we are able to provide lessons that help our members to practice their life skills in the safety and comfort of their homes.

The hands-on practice provides our members with functional skills in a real life setting that can be replicated at home, in the community as well as other aspects of their life. Our life skills program combines many aspects of our members’ lives. Daily living skills such as brushing, showering and practicing good hygiene is key to our members feeling healthy and happy. Being able to maintain a clean space in their bedroom and home gives them a sense of accomplishment and confidence. Our mock bedroom and newly added bathroom provide the real-life stimulation experience and our members are able to get hands-on practice.

At The Centre for Dreams, we strive to foster independence in our members and our life skills program allows our members to practice skills that will enhance their lives for years to come.
